Over the last two months the HIT Lab NZ has been running a competition to see who could develop the best Educational AR application with its BuildAR software. BuildAR is easy to use software that allows non-programmers to build AR scenes, and is becoming widely used, especially for education and marketing.

Many entries were received and this week the prize winners were announced.
First prize went to Sebastian Kerner from Germany for an amazing example of an AR view of a Stirling Engine. The AR scene used a very nice 3D model and animation to clearly explain how a Stirling Engine worked.

The two runners up were Marcos Gomez from Spain and Jorge Martin-Gutierrez from Spain. You can see video of their work here:
In addition to the videos, the winning AR scenes will be made available for download from the BuildAR website shortly.
The first prize was a copy of the BuildAR Pro 2 software, a new version of BuildAR that supports image-based tracking. Stay tuned for more information about this.
